Is this Amazon order text or call a scam?

Unexpected order alerts may impersonate Amazon to make you call a fake support number or reveal account information.

Example message
“Amazon: A $1,249 laptop was ordered from your account. If this was not you, call customer support now at [number].”

Why this is suspicious

The alarming order is bait. The scammer wants you to call the number in the message, where they may request account details, payment, or remote access to your device.

Warning signs

  • The order does not appear in your account
  • The message supplies an urgent support number
  • The caller asks for a verification code
  • They request remote access or payment to reverse the order

What to do next

  1. Do not call or click using the message
  2. Open the Amazon app or type Amazon.com yourself
  3. Review Your Orders inside your account
  4. Use support options inside your real account if help is needed
