Is this PayPal invoice email a scam?
An unexpected PayPal invoice or payment notice can include a fraudulent phone number even when the email looks polished.
“You sent $699.00 through PayPal. If you did not authorize this payment, call [number] immediately.”
Why this is suspicious
Fake invoices create panic about a charge. Calling the included number connects you to the sender, not necessarily PayPal.
Warning signs
- You do not recognize the purchase
- The email emphasizes calling immediately
- The phone number appears inside the invoice
- The caller asks to install software or share a code
What to do next
- Do not call the number in the email
- Open PayPal directly and review Activity
- Check your bank or card account independently
- Forward suspicious emails to phishing@paypal.com
