Is this Geek Squad renewal invoice a scam?
Fake renewal invoices use familiar technology brands and a phone number that connects you to a scammer.
“Your Geek Squad protection plan renewed for $399.99. Call [number] within 24 hours to cancel this charge.”
Why this is suspicious
The invoice is designed to make you call. The person who answers may request remote access to your computer or bank information while pretending to issue a refund.
Warning signs
- You do not recognize the subscription
- The email urges you to call quickly
- The sender address does not match the company
- The caller asks to control your computer or log into your bank
What to do next
- Do not call the number in the message
- Check your bank or card account directly for a real charge
- Contact the company through its official website if needed
- Never give an unexpected caller remote access to your device
